Lancashire lads retain crown after tense finish

LANCASHIRE completed a hat-trick of Four Counties Junior Tournament titles
after a dramatic finish at Nottingham club Woolaton Park.
It was a repeat of last year at The Herefordshire when they fought back
after losing the opening match, on this occasion neighbours Cheshire beating
them 4-3.
The Red Rose boys dispatched the hosts 5-2 in the second round then
Shropshire & Herefordshire by the same margin on the final day.
But after Cheshire succumbed 4-3 to Nottinghamshire the outcome was decided
on countback on games won with Lancashire prevailing by one point.
It was a tense finish which went down to the last two matches on the course.
Macauley Murgatroyd recovered from one down after 13 holes to beat Ross
Booton on the last green, having nearly holed in one on the 17th; Liam
Jenkinson, three down after five against Callum Brown, rallied to ease home
3&2.
Debutants Callum Blinkhorn and James Broadbent, both 15, registered
convincing wins;  Michael Tunstall, also making his first appearance, turned
round a two hole deficit after 11 for an important half,  and county senior
and boy champion Haydn McCullen maintained his record of never having lost a
Four Counties game.
Cheshire finished runners-up for the third successive year.
