Women's Team Crowned Champions at County Match Week!

For those of you who don't know, women's county match week consists of five games over 2 1/2 days, against the other five Northern Counties of Cheshire, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and Yorkshire. The format is two foursomes games and three singles games in each match, and most counties bring a squad of ten players

Day one saw the team play against Cumbria and Yorkshire, and after some magnificent play, both matches were won 4-1. Normally a win over Yorkshire would see more celebration, but our determined team knew the job was only partly done. Day two saw a top of the table clash in the morning against a Northumberland team who were particularly strong in the singles. The first two foursomes games were over early with large wins for Lancashire, and despite losing one of the singles games the team came out on top 4-1 putting them in a commanding position. Cheshire were next in the afternoon, and with all players having played on each of the first two days, all were well in the flow of things and another 4-1 victory was delivered.

The final day saw Lancashire take on Durham and whilst all matches were very tight at the turn, with the exception of Catherine Roberts who had gone into a commanding lead in the final singles game with some excellent golf at 5up after 9 holes, our team played incredible golf to dominate the back 9 resulting in an impressive 4 1/2 - 1/2 win meaning Lancashire had won 20 1/2 points out of 25! It was also the county's first win since 2015 and a mention must go to team captain, Anne Baines and coach Gareth Benson.

The team were impressive in their play, attitude, togetherness and spirit, and Lancashire is very proud of you!

We now go on to play in the national county finals at Stover Golf Club in September.
