Lytham Green Drive Golf Club was laid out by 1902 Open Champion, Alex Herd, and re-designed by James Steer in the 1940’s. At first sight Lytham Green Drive is a pleasant tree-lined course. However, being within a mile of the Irish Sea it still retains parkland characteristics. The greens are small by modern standards, and very well bunkered. This parkland course also has links-like undulating fairways that can fool the eye when it comes to judging distance. Despite its modest length, the course demands a wide variety of golf shots and will make you use just about every club in your bag, withits assortment of different challenges and approaches to most greens. This formidable little test was officially recognised when it was used as a Final Qualifying course for the 1974, 1979 and 1988 Open Championships held at nearby Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club.
