Seven England youngsters head to German championships

 

Seven up-and-coming young players will represent England in the German boys’ and girls’ international championship at St Leon-Rot from 3-5 June.

They are Toby Briggs and Amelia Williamson of Norfolk, Louisa Brunt and Oliver Clarke of Lancashire; Sammy Fuller of Surrey; Matty Lamb of Northumberland; and Dan O’Loughlin of Nottinghamshire.

The stroke play championship is played over 54 holes and there will be a Nations Cup event played alongside the first two rounds. The England teams are: Briggs, Clarke and Lamb in the boys’ championship; Brunt, Fuller and Williamson in the girls.

The players:

Toby Briggs, 15, (Dunston Hall) is a boy international who was third in this year’s McEvoy Trophy and sixth in the Fairhaven Trophies. Last year he tied for the McGregor Trophy, only to lose in a play-off.

Louisa Brunt, 17, (Royal Birkdale) is a consistent performer who has had top 25 finishes in two women’s events this season, the Irish and Welsh open stroke play championships.

Oliver Clarke, 17, (Hillside) was fifth in the Fairhaven Trophies and eighth in the recent Hampshire Salver. Last year he won the U17 trophy at the Irish boys’ amateur and was third overall; he also tied third at the Canadian International Junior Challenge.

Sammy Fuller, 16, (Roehampton) helped England win both the girls’ and women’s 2015 Home Internationals. She was 12th in last year’s the British women’s stroke play and tied for the Irish U18 stroke play championship.

Matty Lamb, 18, (Hexham) tied fourth in the McEvoy Trophy, repeating his result of 2015. During last season he secured a string of top 10 results and represented England in the Boys’ Home Internationals. (Image © Leaderboard Photography)

Dan O’Loughlin, 17, (Ruddington Grange) was fourth in the Fairhaven Trophies and tied ninth in the Peter McEvoy Trophy. He represented England in last year’s Thunderbird international in the USA.

Amelia Williamson, 15, (Royal Cromer) was runner-up in the Fairhaven Trophies,  shared third place in the Scottish U18 girls’ championship and was sixth in the U16 spring championship at Hawkstone Park.
