HESKETH SET BALL ROLLING!!
Hesketh, closely followed by Rochdale, were
the first club to complete their application to join
the county card scheme and hopefully more of you will
follow in the coming weeks!
Clubs have now been sent application forms
for membership of the County Card Scheme which will
be up and running on 1st January, 2009. Members interested
in joining should contact their Golf Club Secretary
to ascertain if their club intends signing up for the
scheme.

CHAMPION REACHES FINAL OF THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP |

Lancashire Amateur Champion, Tommy Fleetwood, continued
his fine form by reaching the final of the Amateur Championship
at Turnberry. Tommy was all square after 18 holes of
the 36 hole final but eventually went down 4 & 2
to Dutchman, Reinier Saxton. For full details see the
R&A website.
Fellow county players John Carroll, David Corsby and
Matthew Nixon also qualified for the match play stages.

AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP |

Fleetwood wins title after play off.
Tommy Fleetwood (Formby Hall), pictured above with
President Mike Yates, and Matthew Nixon (Ashton under
Lyne) tied on 299 (11 over par) on a windswept Formby
golf course. Both players were level on 1 under par
after the three hole play off and so the play off then
went on to sudden death. At the first extra hole, the
15th at Formby, Fleetwood's par 4 was enough to win
the title.

course at Withnell, near Chorley, and with its affiliation

For those wishing to compete in Senior Events in the
North West and Yorkshire areas we are pleased to again
be able to offer a list of some Open
Senior Competitions for 2008.
We thank Richard Wright, Seniors Secretary at Bury Golf
Club, for his efforts in compiling this information
and for allowing us to offer this list as a download
via our website.

COUNTY FOURSOMES |

|
County Players to the fore in Foursomes Championship
2006 County Champion John Carroll and his partner Matt
Denton from Huyton & Prescot won the County Foursomes
Championship at Preston Golf Club with an excellent
two round total of 138. Runners up were the Pleasington
pairing of County player Michael Hunt and current Boys
Champion Jack Brooks.
The Preston Course was in excellent condition with all
competitors singing the praises of its excellent greens
and course presentation and County President Cliff Bowman
thanked the Preston Captain Alan Lafferty on behalf of
all the competitors.
