THE Rest of Lancashire atoned for a recent run of defeats by the Southport &
District GA when they prevailed by three points in the traditional season
curtain-raiser at Hillside, writes DAVID BIRTILL.
They claimed the foursomes 4-2 then won the first four singles before the
hosts fought back to revive their hopes only to lose two of the last three
matches.
There was a healthy mixture of county regulars in both sides and some
impressive individual performances.
Most notably they came from John Carroll, who dispatched England A squad
member and fellow former Lancashire champion Sean Towndrow 3&2, and Ian
Kenwright who beat host club player Richie Blundell 4&3.
