Yorkshire and Lancashire clubs head to national final

Four teams from Yorkshire golf clubs and two from Lancashire have claimed their places in next month’s national final of the England Golf Club Team Championship.

They all won through a regional qualifier at Lancaster Golf Club, Lancashire, and will play off for the title on Monday, 8 August, during England Golf Week at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire.

The team from Whitby led the way with 87 points. The other qualifiers include Shipley Golf Club, whose team won the championship when it was played for the first time last year. A new team of four is representing the club in this year’s competition.

The successful qualifiers were:

Whitby Golf Club, Yorkshire, represented by Janet McGeehin, Michael Coates, Siew Choon Tan and Robert Scott (pictured).

Marriott Worsley Park Golf Club, Lancashire, represented by Allan and Sue Rudman, Stephen Murray and Jean Kelly.

Waterton Park Golf Club, Yorkshire, represented by Glynn and Karen Andrews, Stuart Nice and Tracey Parker.

Shipley Golf Club, Yorkshire, represented by Mick Exley and Val Exley and Peter and Ann Borsos.

Lancaster Golf Club, Lancashire, represented by Josephine O'Neill, David Thompson and Stanley and Sheila Swindlehurst.

Low Laithes Golf Club, Yorkshire, represented by Gordon and Jane Fawcett, Geoff Parkes and Michelle Walker.

They will meet qualifiers from three other regional events at the national final. It will be a feature of Golf Week, staged by England Golf to create a national grand finale for a host of handicap and team championships.
