THE Rest of Lancashire lost by a point to Southport & District Golf Association in their traditional season curtain-raiser at West Lancashire.

Two points ahead after the foursomes, the Rest soon forfeited their advantage when Richie Blundell and James Rooney won the top two singles against Mark Young and Joe Brice 2&1 and 3&2 respectively.

Sean Towndrow kept the hosts in the ascendancy with a comprehensive 6&5 victory over Ciaran Doherty, the biggest margin of the day.

But it was nip and tuck after that with the outcome decided in the final two ties when Jack Shelley eclipsed Paul McFerran 4&3 and Oliver Clarke dispatched Curtis Clarkin 3&2.
