Oh Carroll what a record

LANCASHIRE hot-shot John Carroll blitzed the course record at Ashton & Lea
with a superb eight-under-par 63 in the second round of the Calvert Trophy,
writes DAVID BIRTILL.
And, coupled with his opening 65, he returned to the top of the Galvin Green
Northern Order of Merit table by dislodging Northenden's Sam Prince who had
leapfrogged him the previous week at Wallasey.
Double county champion Carroll, from Huyton & Prescot, who has made
76 appearances in the Red Rose side, completed his last nine holes in 30
strokes comprising four birdies and an eagle at the 477-yard 16th.
Prince was five shots adrift but still finished nine ahead of third placed
Tom Dolan, from Heswall.
The top three also hold the same position in the table, Carroll 45 points in
front of Prince who leads Dolan by 65.
