NEXT time Lancashire captain Paul Williams bumps into his Cheshire
counterpart and Stockport clubmate David Peel he's promised to buy him a
pint, writes DAVID BIRTILL.
The best-of-pals were both celebrating after their sides won their Daily
Telegraph Northern Counties League matches at the weekend.
But the drinks will be on Williams as the defending champions regained pole
position in the table after a comprehensive 12.5-5.5 victory over
Northumberland at Arcot Hall. And it was Cheshire who enabled them to
dislodge Yorkshire by beating them 10-8 at Bramall Park.
"David did us a big favour," enthused Williams. "It will be a
pleasure to treat him at the bar!"
With Cumbria's title aspirations dented when they lost 9.5-8.5 against
Durham at Ramside, it was a day when everything went in Lancashire's favour.
"We shaded the foursomes by one point but then dominated the singles," added
Williams who noted emphatic wins by Wilpshire debutant Joey Lamb; Nelson's
Curtis Clarkin, and Manchester's Roger Smithies, back in to the side after
an eight-year absence.
